Back to School

There used to be some commercials that declared this the most wonderful time of the year. I spent many years in post secondary and graduate school. Too many if you asked my wife. Even now come september I have that itch to go to the book store and get ready for another year. September is going to be an exciting time at the studio.

As of today there are still 3 spots left for Faerie day Friday September 27 - the first Friday off for Chinooks Edge Schools.  Three pose mini sessions for the special price of $49 (regular price $350) will also include a complementary gift portrait. There is a limit of 15 Mini-sessions available so contact the studio as soon as possible.

Tell Your Story

Ever want to stretch your photography skills? One way to shoot more creatively with your camera is with story telling. When you are shooting an event or activity, tell the story from beginning to end with pictures. Here's an example. Let's say you are baking cookies with your kids. You might shoot the kids getting all the ingredients out and lined up. Then take a shot of them breaking the eggs into the bowl. You might also want to snap a shot of them mixing up the dough and with flour on their noses. Don't forget a shot of them licking the bowl too. Of course, you will want pictures of the final product, the cookies being dumped into milk. This is a really fun way to grow your creativity while capturing some great memories at the same time!

Go Big AND Small

Often, clients ask our advice on where to display wall art and where to show off smaller images.   Here are few guidelines to help you decide where to showcase your portrait art.

If you're displaying images in a small space, such as a hallway or entryway; where people will be standing close to the portraits when they view them, you'll want to use smaller images.  Often, our clients will showcase the individual members of the family in small spaces.    A grouping with an 8x10 or 8x8 of each family member is ideal.   If you'd prefer to display only one portrait in a small space, you'll want to look at a 16x20 or a 20x24 depending on the dimensions of your home.  The reason smaller prints work in these spaces?  If the portrait is too large for the space, the viewer will have to back up to see the images or it make the space feel too crowded.

When designing wall dcor for a living room, family room or dining room, more adequately sized images will be best.  In rooms of this size, your guests will be viewing your portraits from across the room, that's why portraits of 24 inches or larger are your best options.  In some rooms, a grouping of 2 to 3 20 inch portraits is ideal.  Larger walls may look best with a single 30x40 or a grouping with 2 16x20 portraits and a 24x30.

Our goal is to assist you in designing wall decor, no matter what size, that best showcases your portraits and works with the sizes of your rooms.   You should love your portraits and enjoy having them displayed in your home to share with family and guests.    Let us help you design your wall art.

Where has the summer gone!

Here it is (a little past) time for another Philip Litke Photography Newsletter. Yesterday Vaughan was lamenting that his summer is waisted out - I think that is because we were discussing back to school shopping . Is it just me or do the years seem to be moving faster. Before we know it it will be school .. Christmas . . .

These newsletters are the place to look to see what's happening at the studio. More importantly, this will be the place to look for Model searches, like the one in the left column; up coming specials and advanced notice for of events or limited edition sessions such as Faerie Days or Marilyn Events. Watch your inbox the first week of every month.

That being said we have a date for the only Faerie Day of 2013. Friday September 27 - the first Friday off for Chinooks Edge Schools. Three pose mini sessions for the special price of $49 (regular price $350) will also include a complementary gift portrait. There is a limit of 15 Mini-sessions available so contact the studio as soon as possible.
